Latin Name: Euprepiophis mandarinus
Adult mandarin rat snakes can reach between 4 – 5 foot (48-60 inches) in length and have a life span of up to 15 years. They are generally kept by experienced keepers as they can be quick, nervous animals but with regular handling they do tend to calm down over time, making them docile and easily handled. They can also rattle their tail when agitated or excited. Mandarin rat snakes require lower temperatures of 30 Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) and humidity levels of 65-75%. Like most snakes, they have a carnivorous diet of defrosted rats and mice. A water bowl should be provided as they not only drink from it but can bathe in it to cool down or help loosen shedding skin, this should be refreshed daily.
