Russian hamsters have a life span of 1 – 3 years and can have a reputation for being somewhat nippy pets but are generally easy to tame down. They are fun to watch and are fairly low-maintenance, making it a good pet for beginners. They are social animals so will be much happier to be housed in pair or small groups. A russian hamsters diet will typically be made up from the commercial pet shop food, supplemented by fruits and vegetables such as a limited amounts of certain nuts, seeds, grains, fruits, and vegetables, including oats, bananas, and carrots.
