Blue tongue skinks get their common name from their distinct blue tongue. They are docile and easily tamed, which make them a great beginner pet. Blue tongue skinks are omnivores so should be given a variety of foods from insects such as crickets, locusts and mealworms and fruit and vegetables such as strawberries, leafy greens and squash. This should be fed alongside a calcium/ vitamin D supplement that should be added to the food regularly to help prevent metabolic bone disease or other health related problems.
