Leopard geckos are commonly kept pet lizards and are perfect for beginners due to them being generally slower moving than most other lizards. Adult Leopard geckos are about 20cm (almost 8inches) in length and come in many colour variations. They are carnivorous, so need a variety of bugs for a healthy diet such as locusts, crickets and calciworms. The average life span for a leopard gecko (Eublepharis macularius) is 15 years. They are nocturnal meaning that they are most active after sunset and before sunrise. Leopard geckos spend most of the day time in their burrows trying to stay cool but they will come out and bask if they require UVB.
