Latin Name: Tenrecidae
Tenrecs are generally friendly and inquisitive animals who enjoy handling and show little aggression. They grow to be 25 to 40cm (9-15 inches) in length with a life span for up to 13 years. They do go through a type of hibernation once a year called torpor, it is similar to brumation in reptiles, therefore keeping them around 75 Fahrenheit (23 Celsius) is perfect as anything below sends them into torpor. Tenrecs should be offered insects such as cockroaches, locusts and mealworms as well as a thawed pinkie mouse afew times a week. They require access to water and kibble at all times, which should be high in protein and fat such as kitten or cat food.
